In 2021, the number of Indians enunciating their nationality nearly doubled.
- The number of Indians who renounced their citizenship surged dramatically in 2021, which reached 1,63,370.
- This rose from 85,256 in 2020 as per data released by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on July 19th.
- And 1,44,017 Indians renounced their citizenship in 2019.
United States of America
The number of Indians who were granted citizenship increased from 30,828 in 2020 to 78,284 in 2021, and the United States of America continues to be the top #1 destination for immigrants looking to relocate.
Australia
On top #2 it is Australia. This nation is now the 2nd most popular destination, with 23,533 Indians accepting Australian citizenship in 2021. In 2020, up to 13,518 Indians switched to Australian citizenship.
Canada
With a total of 21,597 Indians gave up their citizenship in 2021 and become Canadian citizens. Canada welcomes a vast number of Indians each year for jobs and education, ranks on #3rd position.
