Parul is a UK citizen and a full time mother to 2 children from her previous relationship. She earns some income from her work as a freelance writer for blogs and periodicals. She met Gagan at a social function and there was a connection. Gagan is a high profile entrepreneur who earns an income that is equivalent to £ 200,000 in India. Most of his investments are held in higher income portfolios where the interest rates vary and the investments are moved to gain better returns. As Parul is unable to meet the income requirement, they have decided to move to Paris for a year where Gagan is considering setting up a business and interestingly he does not have to either show investment funds of £ 200,000 nor submit a business plan as required under the Tier 1 Entrepreneur route.

They plan to stay in Paris for 12 – 18 months and evaluate how the business shapes up and then return to the UK.

Most young Britons or those who are of independent means and happen to be a in a relationship with a non EU national are exploring this option of the so-called Surinder Singh route – whereby couples and families can move to an EU country for several months and re-apply to return under EU free movement laws, circumventing minimum-income requirements.

If you are in a long term relationship with a British partner or are married or a same sex partner of a British citizen or person settled in the UK and you would like to evaluate the options to enable your non EU partner/spouse to join you in the UK, book an appointment with our Immigration experts for an objective assessment of the same.
