The sponsoring partner generally needs a gross annual income of £29,000. The alternative of a specific liquid funds amount like £62,500 for new applications is no longer applicable after April 11, 2024. While cash savings can be used, the required amount is now significantly higher (£88,500 if relying solely on savings).

Bringing your wife to the UK on a Spouse Visa will cost:

  • Applying from outside the UK: £1,938
  • Applying from inside the UK: £1,321
  • Healthcare Surcharge: £1,035 per year. For an initial 2.5-year visa, this will be £2,587.50.

If you are using only cash savings to meet the financial requirement, you now need £88,500 held for at least six months.
Cash savings can also be combined with income if your sponsor’s income is below £29,000. The calculation for this is more complex.

The cost to sponsor your wife for a UK Spouse Visa includes the application fee and the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS). As of April 16, 2025:

  • Application Fee (applying from outside the UK): £1,938
  • Application Fee (applying from inside the UK): £1,321
  • Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS): £1,035 per year. For an initial Spouse Visa granted for 2.5 years, this amounts to £2,587.50.

Therefore, the total cost is:

  • Applying from outside the UK: £1,938 (application fee) + £2,587.50 (IHS) = £4,525.50
  • Applying from inside the UK: £1,321 (application fee) + £2,587.50 (IHS) = £3,908.50

The VFS charge of 32.20 euros is an additional cost that may apply when applying from outside the UK, as VFS Global handles visa application centers in many countries. You will need to factor this into your expenses if it is applicable to your location.

The minimum gross annual income you need to earn to bring your husband to the UK on a Spouse Visa is now £29,000.

The previous requirement of £18,600 per year applies only to those who first applied for a Spouse Visa before April 11, 2024, and are now extending their stay with the same partner. For all new applications made on or after this date, the £29,000 threshold is in place.
