The UK’s Prime Minister, Mr. Boris Johnson will visit India later this month. According to official sources, the focus is on strengthening bilateral relations in the ongoing negotiations on a free trade agreement between India and the United Kingdom.
The trip is long due especially since the COVID-19 pandemic forced Johnson to cancel his two scheduled visits to India last year. The visit is expected around 22nd April 2022, in Delhi.
It is likely that during his visit to India, both leaders will conduct a review of the 2030 Roadmap which they had signed at a virtual summit in May 2021. The Roadmap, which aims to at least double bilateral trade between India and the UK by 2030, is part of Britain’s Indo-Pacific foreign policy tilt.
“A trade deal with India’s booming economy offers huge benefits for British businesses, workers and consumers” Johnson said at the formal launch of Free Trade Agreement (FTA) talks earlier this year.
This upcoming event is expected to bring what?
Free Trade Agreement (FTA) aims to improve the mobility of workers, unskilled and skilled and for individuals who plan to migrate to the UK for work/business purposes. This might also open doors to new immigration routes or amendments made to the existing ones.
According to Falguni Y. Parekh, Solicitor and Partner at The SmartMove2UK, “The area of global mobility will be of particular interest to IT professionals, healthcare workers, whilst innovators and business owners will be looking for favourable pathways to enable them to expand their presence in the UK and boost revenue for the parent companies in India”.
The UK continues to be an attractive destination for Indians to work, study, invest and even visit on holidays. For the period ended Sept. 2021, UK Home Office had issued 90,669 student visas (+102%) and almost 700,000 Indians visited the UK in 2019 for holidays and business.
The SmartMove2UK has been helping Indian businesses since 2009 to set up their footprint in the UK and take that first step to become a true Indian multinational.
