Tier 5 visas
A Tier 5 visa is for skilled workers who want to be employed on a temporary basis. Tier 5 visas are split into the following sub categories:Tier 5 Creative and Sporting
if you have been offered work as a sports person or creative worker. A creative worker is someone who works in the creative industry, for example an actor, dancer, musician or film crew member. The duration of visa to sports person is up to 1 year and for creative workers the visa is granted for up to 2 years. Tier 5 Charity Worker
for unpaid voluntary work for charity. The duration of visa granted is for up to 1 year.
The earliest you can apply for a visa is 3 months before the date you’re due to start work. Tier 5 Religious Worker
for those doing preaching, pastoral and non-pastoral work. Visas under this category are granted for up to 2 years. Tier 5 Government Authorised Exchange
is for workers who want to come to the UK for a short time for work experience or to do training, an Overseas Government Language Programme, research or a fellowship through an approved government authorised exchange scheme. You need to have a certificate of sponsorship from a licensed sponsor before you can apply to come to the UK to work. The earliest you can apply for a visa is 3 months before the date you’re due to start work. The duration of visa varies from 1 year to up to 2 years depending on the purpose. Tier 5 International Agreement
where the worker is coming to do a job which is covered by international law, eg employees of overseas governments. You need to be sponsored (have a certificate of sponsorship from a licensed employer) before you can apply to come to the UK. Tier 5 Youth mobility scheme
Tier 5 youth mobility scheme visas are for applicants who want to live and work in the UK for up to 2 years and:
- are aged 18 to 30
- have £1,890 in savings
- have certain types of British Nationality or are from certain countries
- meet the other eligibility requirements
If you are from Hong Kong or the Republic of Korea you will need to be sponsored. A certificate of sponsorship is a unique reference number that holds information about the job you will do and your personal details. It’s not a certificate or paper document.
The earliest you can apply for Tier 5 Youth Mobility Scheme workers is 6 months before you travel. Under this category of visa, you’ll be given a visa to live and work in the UK for up to 24 months.
